Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia (MCMZ) was founded in 2008 in response to a shocking discovery from the 2007 Zambia Demographic Health Survey, which revealed that nearly 42% of Zambian girls were married before the age of 18. As a youth-led organization, MCMZ has since taken significant strides in the fight against early and forced child marriages as well as sexual exploitation.
Operating with Public Benefit Organization (PBO) status under Section 41 of Zambia’s Tax Income Act and in partnership with Girls Not Brides, MCMZ annually rescues around 50 girls, providing them with safe housing, care, and educational sponsorship at their Center of Excellence for Ending Child Marriages. The center’s mission is not only to provide immediate relief for child brides and at-risk children but also to build a sustainable framework to eliminate child marriage in the region.
MCMZ's efforts represent a growing movement to address child exploitation in Zambia, supporting retrieved child brides in their journey toward reclaiming their futures through education and support. By providing a holistic solution that incorporates both immediate care and long-term development, MCMZ stands as a beacon of hope for countless vulnerable children in Zambia, championing a brighter future free from exploitation and forced marriages.
The organization's work emphasizes the importance of collaboration between youth, government, and international partners in eradicating these harmful practices, and MCMZ continues to make a profound impact in the communities it serves.
